Dr. Shad (Farshad Fani Marvasti, MD, MPH) is a Stanford-trained physician, medical educator, researcher, public speaker and author. He is proactively engaged in creating solutions to promote health and prevent the chronic diseases of our time.
His work has been featured on local and national media where he has been quoted or interviewed for his recognized expertise in Wellness, Longevity, Nutrition, Culinary Medicine, Integrative Medicine, Public Health, Prevention, Diabetes, Heart Health, and the use of a whole person approach to optimizing health and longevity.
As an emerging thought leader, he has published in the New England Journal of Medicine where he and his co-author make the case for redesigning medicine to create a prevention based health care system.
As a practicing physician, Dr. Shad advocates for the use of food as medicine and actively teaches his patients to buy and prepare healthy meals with food prescriptions as a standard part of treating their medical conditions.

As a physician executive, he is working to develop innovative clinical models that take a whole person approach to health care to proactively empower patients with the tools they need to optimize their health in all aspects of life.
Acting to transform medical education as an associate professor, Dr. Shad is redesigning the 4-year medical school curriculum to include wellness, nutrition, culinary medicine, integrative and lifestyle medicine to prevent disease and maintain health throughout the lifespan.
Working to expand our knowledge, Dr. Shad has undertaken research, published articles and medical textbook chapters on disease prevention, nutrition and complementary and alternative medicine since 1997. He has written two book chapters on Integrative Preventive Medicine in the most recent book of the Weil Integrative Medicine Library. He also contributes articles as a featured expert in Integrative Medicine to DRWEIL.COM.

Education and Experience
Dr. Shad is a distinguished graduate of Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University and has obtained both his Medical Doctorate and Masters of Public Health from the University of Arizona.
He completed his medical residency training at the Stanford University School of Medicine and subsequently served as a postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Stanford Prevention Research Center.
Dr. Shad served as Adjunct Clinical Faculty at the Stanford School of Medicine from 2011 to 2019. He has been a part of the faculty at The University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix since 2014 and currently serves as an Associate Professor. He has brought over 1 million dollars in foundation support for a number of innovative programs that he has started at the university. Dr. Shad is the founding Director of The Culinary Medicine Program at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix and the co-founder of the UArizona Culinary Medicine Initiative. Dr. Shad is also the founding Director of the Wellness, Integrative Medicine, and Nutrition Certificate of Distinction at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix.
As a healthcare leader, Dr. Shad served as the inaugural Medical Director at One Medical Arizona, an innovative technology-enabled primary care model recognized by health care leadership awards, where he saw patients and served as Medical Director of Clinical Partnerships and Strategy. Dr. Shad currently serves as the Director of Integrative Medicine at HonorHealth in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Dr. Shad is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. Dr. Shad completed the Integrative Medicine Fellowship with his longtime mentor and advisor Dr. Andrew Weil at the Andrew Weill Center for Integrative Medicine.
